In short: Axcient x360Recover is a business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) service that backs up servers and workstations, direct-to-cloud or through an appliance, verifies backups automatically and can run protected machines as virtual machines in Axcient's cloud. Axcient x360Cloud is its companion backup for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
What x360Recover does
x360Recover takes image-based backups of whole machines, so you can recover a single file, a folder or an entire server. What makes it a continuity product rather than plain backup is what happens when a machine fails: instead of waiting for a rebuild, you can start the protected server as a virtual machine in Axcient's cloud and keep working from it while the original is repaired.
It is offered in several deployment models:
- Direct-to-cloud (D2C): agents send backups straight to the Axcient cloud with no hardware on site, with an optional Local Cache on a USB drive or NAS to speed up local restores and failback
- Appliance-based: an on-site device holds local backups for fast recovery and replicates to the Axcient cloud; you can buy or lease an appliance from Axcient or bring your own hardware
- Your own cloud or data centre: backups go to private cloud storage you control
- D2C for Microsoft Azure: protection and recovery for workloads running in Azure
For most small offices, direct-to-cloud removes the cost and maintenance of a backup server altogether.
Features that matter for ransomware recovery
Axcient builds several protections into x360Recover that address the ways backups usually fail in a real incident:
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| AutoVerify | Automatically tests backups by virtualising them, without someone testing them by hand, and gives you evidence of regular testing for audits and cyber insurance |
| AirGap | Separates a deletion request from the actual deletion, with a delay, so an attacker or mistaken admin cannot instantly wipe backups |
| Virtual Office | Runs one or more protected systems in the Axcient cloud to replace failed infrastructure temporarily, and supports DR testing |
| Chain-free backups | Each backup point is independent rather than relying on a long chain of incrementals, so long retention does not require starting over |
These do not replace prevention. Endpoint detection and response, from our endpoint security and XDR page, and a managed detection and response service reduce the chance you need a full recovery in the first place.
x360Cloud for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
x360Cloud backs up SaaS data to the Axcient cloud:
- Microsoft 365: Exchange mail, calendars and contacts, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams
- Google Workspace: Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, Drive, shared drives and Sites
Backups run several times a day, and data from departed employees and deactivated accounts is kept, so you do not have to keep paying for a licence just to preserve a leaver's mailbox. Restores can be granular or large-scale, are non-destructive so they do not overwrite current data, and are supported by full-text search across users. AirGap protection applies to x360Cloud too, and storage is pooled in a flat fee. For a comparison with other Microsoft 365 options, including Microsoft's own service, see our Microsoft 365 backup guide.
Licensing in general terms
x360Recover licensing depends on the systems you protect and the deployment model you choose: direct-to-cloud, appliance-based or your own cloud. Cloud storage is pooled and charged as a flat fee under Axcient's fair use policy, so you are not counting gigabytes per machine or facing storage overage charges. Appliances can be bought or leased from Axcient, or you can use your own hardware. x360Cloud includes pooled storage and long-term retention for a flat fee.
The right combination depends on how many servers and PCs you have, how quickly each must be recovered and whether you want local copies on site. Licensing detail is on Axcient licensing at softwarelicensing.uk. Ask us for a quote.
Who it suits, and how it compares
Axcient suits organisations that still run their own servers, on premises or in Azure, and for whom downtime is the main risk: professional services firms, practices, manufacturers and multi-site businesses with line-of-business applications on a server. If you are cloud-only with no servers, a SaaS backup product such as NinjaOne SaaS Backup is usually a simpler fit.
Compared with Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, Axcient concentrates on continuity and recovery rather than bundling endpoint security and management into the same agent. Acronis suits organisations that want one vendor for backup and security; Axcient suits those that already have endpoint security and want backup and recovery from a specialist.
How we help
We review which machines need protecting and how quickly each must come back, choose between direct-to-cloud and appliance deployment, install agents, set schedules and retention, and confirm AutoVerify results. We plan and run a recovery test using Virtual Office so you know how long a real failover takes, and we monitor backups and handle licence changes afterwards.

How Forever Systems helps with cloud security
We are an independent UK IT and cyber security provider. We supply and support a wide range of security platforms, so we recommend what fits your organisation rather than one vendor's answer to everything.
- Assess first: we review what you already own, especially your Microsoft 365 licences, before suggesting anything new
- Vendor-aware advice across secure access, email, identity, data protection, endpoint, MDR, cloud infrastructure, browser, AI and backup, including Cisco Secure, Check Point Harmony and Sophos
- Deployment and migration from a UK team, from tenant hardening to replacing a VPN or an endpoint product
- Ongoing support: policy tuning, alert handling, renewals and regular reviews
- People and certification too: security awareness training and Cyber Essentials
We work with businesses, schools, charities and public sector organisations.

Contact usFrequently asked questions
What is Axcient x360Recover?
Axcient x360Recover is a business continuity and disaster recovery service that takes image-based backups of servers and workstations, verifies them automatically and can run protected machines as virtual machines in Axcient's cloud while the originals are repaired.
Does x360Recover need an appliance?
No. x360Recover Direct-to-Cloud sends backups straight to the Axcient cloud without hardware on site, with an optional local cache on a USB drive or NAS. Appliance-based deployment is available if you want fast local recovery, and you can bring your own hardware.
What is Axcient AirGap?
AirGap separates deletion requests from the actual deletion of backup data, with a time delay and other safeguards, so that an attacker or a mistaken administrator cannot instantly destroy backups.
What does Axcient x360Cloud back up?
Microsoft 365 Exchange mail, calendars, contacts, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams, and Google Workspace Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, Drive, shared drives and Sites. Data from departed users is retained.
Is Axcient or Acronis better?
They suit different needs. Axcient focuses on server and PC continuity, with cloud virtualisation for recovery. Acronis combines backup with endpoint security and management in one agent. We recommend based on your servers, recovery targets and existing security tools.
